The Live page
This page needs the tracking script, not Shopify
The visitor half runs on the two scripts from See visitors live. If you have not connected a shop yet, everyone still shows up here; only the money stays at zero. The other way round works too: connect Shopify without the scripts and you get sales but no visitors.
What is on the screen
Live
The word in the corner
Top right there is a small indicator. live means Shopdeck has an open connection and events arrive the instant they happen. If it says something like 8s ago instead, that connection could not be made and the page is asking on a timer — slower, but nothing is lost.
Beside it are two buttons: Today and Yesterday. Yesterday is a finished day, so it does not refresh and has no sale bell.
Three counters that are not the same thing
This is the single most misread part of the page. All three look like “how many people” and none of them mean the same.
| On screen | What it counts |
|---|---|
| Visitors on the site right now | People whose last sign of life was under a minute ago and was not them leaving. Somebody who closes their tab disappears immediately; somebody whose phone dies fades out after about a minute. |
| visitors today | Unique people today — one per device, however many times they came back. |
| visits | Separate trips. One person can have several: a new visit starts after half an hour of silence, when they arrive through a different ad, or on a new day. So visits is always the higher number. |
| bots not counted | Visits that loaded one page and then did nothing at all — no movement, no second signal. Only something that is not actually looking behaves like that. |
The funnel counts visits, not visitors
The four steps — Visits, In cart, To checkout, Ordered — are all percentages of visits. The heading says so. A shop with 500 visitors and 700 visits would otherwise print 700 under a heading that promised visitors.
One more wrinkle: the last step, Ordered, is the count of Shopify orders today. The first three are measured by the tracking script. Different measurement systems, side by side.
The money tile
- Revenue today — everything sold today minus what has been refunded. The tile turns green and says Verkocht! for about twenty-five seconds after a fresh sale.
- Profit — the same calculation as Overview, for one day: after cost of goods, fees, ads, returns and one day’s share of overhead.
- ROAS — revenue divided by today’s ad spend. Hover it to see where your break-even sits.
- Ad spend — in red, beside ROAS. Today’s spend, as fresh as the last ad sync.
Live ROAS flatters you early in the day
Revenue here is seconds old. Ad spend is minutes old at best, on top of the delay Meta and TikTok already have on today’s figures. So in the morning the ROAS is nearly always too good. There is a small timestamp under the spend figure that tells you how old it is.
Under the amount is the channel split: Meta, TikTok, Google, Direct, Other. Those percentages are of visits, because where someone came from belongs to the trip, not to the person.
The panels below
- Live in your shop now — a card per visitor: country, how long ago, which page, how many items in the basket, which channel they arrived through. Never a name — the page carries no identifying data at all.
- Sales · last 30 min — the recent orders with amount, time and country.
- Being viewed now · top products — what people are actually looking at this minute.
- Which campaign brought them and Where visits started — where today’s traffic came from.
In cart and In checkout never count the same person twice — somebody at the checkout is removed from the cart figure. And read the checkout label: In checkout means measured, Heading to checkout means they clicked the button and it is an educated guess.
The timeline
The button marked with a clock opens a column on the right listing everything that happened, newest first. A dropdown sets how far back to look — 1 hour to 24 hours — and the small icons filter it to one kind of event: sales, added to cart, removed from cart, reached checkout, left checkout.
Useful when you want to know why a number moved: the timeline shows the individual events behind it.
The sale bell
The Sale bell toggle plays a sound when an order comes in. Turning it on plays it once immediately, so you know how loud it is. Toast messages also appear for sales, carts and checkouts, at most four at a time.
You can replace the sound with your own by putting a file at /sounds/verkoop.mp3 in the deployment.
Showing the page to someone else
The eye button in the top-right corner is privacy mode. It blurs your brand name, logo, product names, campaign names and web address — for when you are recording your screen or sharing it on a call.
It does not blur amounts, percentages, countries or channels. If those need to stay private too, hide them another way.
